Bee Anatomy Resources

A Scanning Electron Microscope Atlas of the Honey Bee from USDA researchers at the Carl Hayden Bee Research Center provides highly detailed images (SEM, of course) of external bee anatomy primarily, with some images of .  The publication is divided according to caste (queen, worker, drone).  It also contains a thorough Glossary of terminology (did you know that the sound made by queen bees, often called "piping" is also called "quacking" by some?!).  A digital .pdf version is freely available to all at the link provided above, thanks to U.S. government funding.

Illustrations from Anatomy of the Honey Bee by R.E. Snodgrass - eXtension.  There are few detailed, high quality drawings of bee internal and external anatomy available.  Thanks to the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension for posting a digital copy of "The Anatomy of the Honey Bee" by Robert E. Snodgrass.  His anatomy drawings are some of the best made.  It's a difficult book to find in print, so the digital version is very helpful.
